The Brambles supports up to seven adults with a learning disability and complex needs. The CQC assesses every service against five key questions, and The Brambles achieved:

  • Safe: Good
  • Effective: Outstanding
  • Caring: Outstanding
  • Responsive: Good
  • Well-led: Outstanding

What the CQC found

Inspectors found that “people received exceptionally kind, compassionate and person-centred care from staff who knew them extremely well and consistently treated them with dignity, respect and empathy.”

They also noted that “staff understood people’s histories, preferences and aspirations and used this knowledge to deliver highly personalised care which promoted wellbeing, independence and positive outcomes.”

The report recognised how people are supported to live full lives in their local community, from regular trips to Comic Cons to visits to museums, and to make meaningful choices about their own lives. Families told inspectors that their loved ones were safe, well cared for and leading fuller lives since moving to The Brambles.

A culture where people thrive

The Well-led rating reflects the culture at the heart of the service. The CQC found “a highly positive, open and inclusive culture throughout the service”, where “leaders were visible, approachable and supportive, and promoted the values of empowerment, individuality and respect.”

Inspectors also highlighted that “the provider actively supported staff wellbeing, development and progression, which had created a skilled, motivated and stable workforce and promoted continuity of care.”

Henna Uddin, Registered Manager, said:

“As Registered Manager, receiving an Outstanding CQC rating for The Brambles is a moment of immense pride and reflection. Looking back over the last 18 months, it has been an absolute privilege to lead the development of the service from a vision into a home that delivers exceptional outcomes for the people we support.

From the very beginning, I had a clear vision for The Brambles, to create a service that was truly person centred, ambitious, nurturing and focused on helping people live meaningful lives.

This achievement has not been the result of one person, it reflects the dedication, passion and commitment of an incredible team and the unwavering support we have received from every single person across The Bridge.

I am incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me to establish The Brambles and proud of the culture we have created together. Most importantly, I am proud of the happiness, growth, independence and opportunities experienced by the people we support. This Outstanding rating recognises not only what we have achieved but also the belief, determination and teamwork that made it possible. It has been an honour to lead The Brambles, and I am excited about continuing to build on this success in the years ahead.”

Craig Lister, Director of Operations, said:

“To achieve an Outstanding rating at The Brambles Apartments’ very first CQC inspection is an incredible achievement, and I am immensely proud of everyone involved.

For me, what matters most is what sits behind the rating. Inspectors saw people receiving kind, compassionate and genuinely person-centred support from colleagues who know them extremely well. They saw people living fuller lives, becoming more independent and enjoying meaningful experiences that reflect who they are and what matters to them.

Being rated Outstanding in Effective, Caring and Well-led shows the strength of the service as a whole. It reflects a committed staff team, strong and visible leadership, positive relationships with families and professionals, and a culture where people are respected, valued and supported to have real choice and control over their lives.

This achievement belongs to the whole Brambles team. They have worked incredibly hard to create a service that is genuinely making a difference to people’s lives, and I could not be prouder of them.”

Congratulations and thank you to the whole Brambles team.
